Mechanical Engineering Department

About the Department
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering - Helwan University has been a key and vital component since the college was founded in 1963 as the Cairo Higher Institute of Technology Helwan under the 1960 agreement between the government of Egypt and the government of West Germany. The Department of Mechanical Engineering has a distinguished record in both teaching and research through outstanding teaching professors and an attractive innovative curriculum. There are three main specializations of the Mechanical Engineering Department: Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering
The Production Engineering major is concerned with the science of materials engineering, forming and operating processes, as well as the principles and fundamentals of mechanical design. The Industrial Engineering specialization deals with production planning and management, quality control, modern production systems, and how to control industrial processes and maintenance operations. The Mechatronics Engineering specialization is based on the harmonious combination of mechanics and electronics. This specialization deals with the study of various control processes such as robot control, intelligent control systems, applications of power electronics and electromechanical equipment, multiple applications of software in mechatronics and robot dynamics.
Based on this unique diversity, the research activities of the 60 faculty members and 40 assistant faculty members of the auxiliary staff are varied, as this large team cooperates to serve the educational process in the department and the college for the benefit of our students through the laboratories and workshops available in the department that promote the educational and research process. The department, with its diverse specializations, has excellent relations with industry, which is reflected on the students through field visits, graduation projects and field training.
