About the Department

Biomedical engineering is a multidisciplinary field that aims to apply several engineering disciplines in the fields of medical and health care, advancing knowledge in engineering, biology and medicine, and improving human health through interdisciplinary activities. The department offers various technical fundamentals in science and engineering from various disciplines and life sciences, along with skills related to team building, dealing with societal issues, communication and leadership skills, with the aim of providing the community with what it needs from engineers in engineering disciplines with a high academic level and an analytical and innovative mental ability with commitment to the standards, behavior and ethics of the engineering profession.
The department also conducts studies and research in the field of medical and biomedical engineering sciences with applications in order to develop the environment, serve society, develop its effective mechanisms, solve its issues, and contribute positively for future development. Biomedical engineering includes many topics such as: medical imaging, biomaterials, bio-acoustic engineering, tissue engineering Bioacoustics, tissue engineering, artificial organs, rehabilitation engineering, medical optics and lasers, cellular engineering, human-machine communication, human factors and ergonomics, and biomechanics.
A professional biomedical engineer requires knowledge of engineering principles and other engineering science skills in parallel with their application in the medical field. These skills are synthesized in design projects through a number of practical applications that students undertake during the academic phases as well as the graduation project.
Graduates of biomedical engineers work in industry, hospitals, research and educational institutions, and government regulatory bodies.
