The Faculty of Engineering in Helwan, Helwan University is one of the oldest engineering colleges in Egypt, as the history of the college dates back to 1959 when the West German government made an offer to strengthen cultural relations and technical cooperation between it and the Egyptian government, and based on this offer, and on December 2, 1960, an agreement was written in the city of Bonn between the Egyptian government and the West German government to establish an engineering institute in Helwan under the name Cairo High Institute of Technology in order to graduate applied engineers capable of industrial and administrative government work and grants a bachelor's degree in specialized branches and according to the concluded agreement the German side had to provide mach Once the construction of most of the buildings was completed and the German side provided the equipment and equipment of workshops and laboratories, studies began at the institute during the academic year 1964/1963. In 1975, a decision was issued to establish Helwan University, where the institute joined Helwan University as one of its faculties under the name of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology in Helwan to include the multiple aspects of engineering from theoretical principles of work and the ability to design various engineering systems in addition to the practical side. In a recent development in 1996, the name of the college was changed to the Faculty of Engineering at Helwan.
